The Proserpine Winter

I do like the classics, Victorian art, and the incredible pre-Raphaelite art. No coincidence then that the sale of 'Proserpine' by Dante Gabriel Rossetti is in the news and it sold for £3.3m. The BBC wrote that it was purchased by a private collector in the UK. If you look at the BBC link, you will see the drawing that Rossetti did in chalks. [1] Its truly amazing what Rossetti could achieve, an incredible artist.

It is written that Jane, the wife of William Morris was the model and inspiration for Rossetti, a passion and love for another man's wife, that compelled him to paint a depiction of her as Proserpine. Clearly, she was a stunningly beautiful woman, that he viewed as the 'captive' goddess in a 'loveless marriage'. [1]

There were many versions of 'Proserpine', and this is a photograph of one of the oil paintings, courtesy of wikipedia. Absolutely beautiful, her thick curly hair reminds me of the Celts, especially the Irish.

The colors that he chose, the way that he painted her gown like the ocean of emotion, that was roaring, the look of a woman that had found something important. Something that she held close to her, holding her left hand with her right one. Knowing deep within her heart what was right, yet, knowing, that winter had come upon her, when the seas would roar around her. It looks like he put the immortal incense on top of a thin book. Rosetti was also a poet, and he wrote a sonnet to go with the painting.

Her neck looks strange in the painting, a different proportion, and it could indicate that that there was a throat issue due to communication and expression.  Her neck does not seem to fit, her slender hands and the delicate bone structure and features of her face.

The fruit featured is an interesting one, due to its importance to Judaism and Buddhism. However, he called the painting 'Proserpine' in reference to the Roman goddess that can be found in both Greek and Roman mythology. A woman in the winter of the convention of a marriage, and the light is behind her with the ivy of memories passed. A woman that is reviewing her life, and the decisions that she made, just like many people on this planet are now doing.

In his sonnet for her, he called her his 'unhappy Proserpine'. Hence, this winter kicked off with the roaring of changing tides in the Philippines. Then the Tor Con in the USA, followed by the Cyclone Cleopatra in Sardina. I did ask people to be careful swimming, as I felt there were huge undercurrents coming. Storms that would come very suddenly, just like the passing of Omega.

This painting in the news, just confirms that it is likely to be what can be known as the 'Proserpine Winter' for humanity. Some will see the beauty that is fleeting, some will see and feel the roar of the oceans and what they claim.

Some will know that the light of yesterday, and what they knew to be true, is behind them, with the memories of it. Some will let go, and some will just look on, as the incense continues to burn, like a smoke signal. Much and many will pass away this winter, and the divorce rate is likely to soar. As austerity takes people into a different realm of being, in their relationships with themselves, their partners, and the nations in which they live.

It is often the case that when poverty flies through the door, love flies out the window, and many people are being served with eviction notices. Due to not being able to afford to pay what they are being asked to pay. So yes, a lot is going up in smoke, because the wealthy Christians did not rescue their own people from what was taking place in their nations. I kept on asking, where are the human rights lawyers? Why were they not there to stop the government implementing laws that would make the poor homeless?

The pomegranate is sacred fruit in the kingdom of God. However, as I have shared with people in the past, the spiritual law of the cosmos can be 'fatal' in its attraction, if people do not live in harmony with cosmic law. I did warn spiritual people about it in an article written and distributed in 2008.

I have written about the symbology of the pomegranate, on our old blog and its significance to Christians as far as the one known as Jesus was concerned. You can also see it on the Empress card, it is featured on what she is wearing. In that depiction she has long blond hair.

We also find the 'ivy', in the Christian carol, the 'Holly and the Ivy'. A man in our community keeps writing that there won't be Christmas this year. He made me smile every time I saw him write that.

Well for the poor that is probably very true. However, Christmas is the least of their concerns right now. While housing associations and councils, are trying to do their utmost to enforce homelessness. Of course that also impacts on 60 year olds, because they have raised the age of retirement in the UK.

While bathing, I asked the LORD, 'what's next?', I was given a vision of a shape of an octopus head, an outline, its legs were spread out straight like a star or spaceship.  I will try to paint what I saw to share it with you. It looked like it was in the cosmos, so whether it has anything to do with ISON, we will have to wait and see.
